When I learned that World of Warcraft patch 8.2.5 with the updated worgen and goblin models was coming out September 24th, I was psyched! I’d been excited about the new worgen models since they first announced it and started showing images of them. I wasn’t as excited about goblins, but I later changed my mind. That’s a story for another day though.
I’d made a few worgen females in the past, but never got very far with them. I don’t think that was due to the old model look, but perhaps it was. Whatever, the reason, worgens just didn’t appeal to me. But with the introduction of the new models and how adorable…er, I mean, ferocious they looked, I knew I wanted to make a male worgen. However, I was having trouble deciding on a class.
The worgens I made in the past were druids because I liked being able to change them into cat form. That leads me to believe that yes, I didn’t like the old models. Deductive reasoning and all that. While making a male worgen druid appealed, so did making a male worgen warrior or male worgen rogue.
Unable to come to a decision on my own, I turned to Twitter and created a poll where people could vote on either warrior, rogue, or druid. I ran the poll for two days (I wish I’d only run it for one because the wait was killing me) and in the end, warrior and druid tied. Fortunately, a few people had commented that they’d voted for warrior and that broke the tie for me.
Mind you, I already had six warriors at the time, but as it’s apparently my favorite class, I saw no reason not to make another. 😉 I’d already gone into the game and previewed all the looks available so I knew exactly what I wanted him to look like when the poll ended. It took me a while to come up with a good name, but I finally decided on Vyraxus, or Vy for short.
Within moments of playing Vy, I was in love! Having never made a male worgen before, I didn’t know any of their actions or emotes, so it was a new fun experience for me. I’ve done the worgen starter area a few times before so it was familiar, but it felt more fun on my male worgen. When I decided to see what the male worgen dance looked like, I burst out laughing at how surprisingly adorable it was!
I got Vy to level 20 in no time and decided that the Seabraid Stallion mount suited him best. It also went the best with the mog I chose for him, which is a plate set from Trial of Style. I created him on Emerald Dream because I have my velf warrior Norayni on there and she had some gold she could share. Plus, Emerald Dream is usually very deserted in the lower level areas, so I knew there wouldn’t be quest or farming competition.
Since Vy, I’ve created a new female worgen druid and parked her at an inn in the starter area to get rest experience before playing her. A couple nights ago I created a male worgen death knight out of curiosity and I love him just as much as Vy. Hearing the worgen voice all echo-y in the death knight style is even more awesome and you can’t beat a worgen with those blue glowing death knight eyes!
Needless to say, I’ve been playing my worgens a lot lately and I think they’re the perfect characters for this time of year. October feels spooky and mystical to me and what could be spookier and cooler than a worgen? Nothing as far as I’m concerned. 😉
