Determined To Do Differently

Every year I renew this WordPress site with the personal vow that I’m actually going to start writing regularly in it again. Alas, that hasn’t been the case for the last few years. But this year I’m determined to do things differently and actually live up to that personal vow. My posts might be more writing than pictures, time will tell. I think what’s most important is putting my thoughts out to the great big world in the hope that they perhaps bring some light to someone’s day. With the state of human existence today, I think some fun and hope will be welcome.

I’ll start with some updates about where I am in life and the online games I’m playing. As of writing this, both of my daughters have graduated school. Last year, my oldest finished college and my youngest finished high school. My oldest found a job that helps her get her foot in the design field but that isn’t quite what she went to college for. I have faith she’ll find what she wants eventually. My youngest is preparing to enter the workforce with the help of programs designed to assist her with her developmental delays. As for me, I continue to work from home as an online transcriptionist and dearly hope the work doesn’t evaporate.

The gpose below from Final Fantasy 14 is a representation of myself and my two daughters. I’m the Elezen woman in the middle, my oldest is the Viera and my youngest is the Hrothgar. The Viera is actually a character my oldest created but the Hrothgar is one I made to represent what I felt my youngest would enjoy from FF14.

As far as gaming goes, I’m still playing Final Fantasy 14 and loving it. While the latest expansion called Dawntrail fell far short of my hopes for it, there was a lot I liked about it and there’s still so much in the game to do. I’ve now filled all 40 character spots the game allows you to have so I am a confirmed altoholic. I’m fortunate that I have lots of friends to play the game with and I really think that makes a huge difference in a person’s enjoyment of it. We can all discuss what we do and don’t like about the game amongst ourselves and just have fun running maps, fates, dungeons, and raids.

Along with Final Fantasy 14, I started playing World of Warcraft again. I’d been playing Dragonflight in 2024 and I really enjoyed that expansion because it felt like a breath of fresh air. I’m now approaching the end of The War Within expansion and I enjoyed it for the most part but I am not fond of all the spider people. Fortunately there’s an arachnophobia option which I use to turn most of the spiders into crabs. It’s quite amusing seeing a giant crab hanging from a spider web.

I also play Guild Wars 2 sometimes but that’s mostly to play with my oldest daughter who has moved out of my house and into an apartment with roommates. She no longer plays FF14 or World of Warcraft and we do in-game events together when there’s something she thinks I’ll enjoy.

So going forward it’s safe to say my posts will be about both Final Fantasy 14, World of Warcraft, and perhaps Guild Wars 2. All three games have different elements I enjoy and help me escape some of the tougher parts of reality these days. I don’t know that anything I say will be particularly life-changing or earth-shattering but if I manage to make a few people smile, I think that will be enough.
